On August 29th 2011 Vermont sustained devastating floods sweeping away homes, businesses, roads, bridges and farms.. Although it’s been over two months since the disaster, many people are still in limbo. The cost of rebuilding may not be known until well into 2012. Farmers are unsure if they should replant in areas now in the floodplain. Rivers have taken over land where homes once stood. People are paying mortgages on homes that don’t exist or land where a home can no longer be built. Despite disaster relief efforts, there is still a great need for additional fundraising. As Vermonters, we need to be prepared for a long-term effort to rebuild our communities.
Vinyasa for Vermont has been developed to bring the yoga community together in one venue, united to support the rebuilding of Vermont. We have selected two non-profit funds to be the recipients of the money raised: The Intervale Farmer Recovery Fund to help with local disaster relief and The Vermont Disaster Relief Fund for statewide long-term relief efforts. 100% of profits will go to these two funds.
